"Always make a total effort, even when the odds are against you." – Arnold Palmer
Jack LaLanne was an American fitness, exercise, and nutritional expert, celebrity, lecturer, and motivational speaker who was widely referred to as "The Godfather of Fitness". I recall watching his TV show as a child. My mom was always wanting to lose some weight or gain some energy and Jack LaLanne was a staple in her arsenal of fitness.
I met Jack LaLanne in the Los Angeles airport a handful if years ago waiting for a flight to Denver. I saw this older gentleman standing by the gate and he caught my attention. Even though he was shorter than I had imagined and at that point it was 40 years after I had watched him on TV, I knew who he was. This was confirmed when I walked up to the agent at the gate and asked, "Is that...." She nodded in the affirmative before I even finished the question.
Jack LaLanne was more than a Health Guru. He was more than an exercise pioneer, more than an old dude hocking a juicer on infomercials...he was an icon. He still is to millions of people around the globe.
There were so many "firsts" by Jack LaLanne -
from the first modern health spa
the nationally syndicated exercise show on TV
introducing resistance training to women & the elderly
co-ed health clubs
performing feats of strength to emphasize the benefits of diet & exercise
teaching scientific body building by changing the program every 2 to 3 weeks
(the concept today's 'gurus' call muscle confusion)
creating the first leg extension machine
and a whole lot more.....
Here is one example of many of his amazing feats of strength & endurance. In 1984 at age 70 handcuffed, shackled and fighting strong winds and currents, he towed 70 boats with 70 people from the Queen’s Way Bridge in the Long Beach Harbor to the Queen Mary, total 1 ½ miles.
Jack LaLanne lived a full life. He set an example to follow, that we have in each and every one of more....more potential, more power, more possibility than we have imagined to date. Jack set the bar high during his life and pushed us to go even higher.
Whether it's exercise, business, charity work, parenting or making a difference in some other way. Let Jack LaLanne's "Leadership by Example" push you to new levels. The choice is uniquely yours.
The best is yet to come!
